Vietnam cashew exports of US exceeds $ 1 billion

The first 6 months of 2015, Vietnam exported 150,000 tones of cashew, export turnover reached nearly 1.1 billion US dollars. Vietnam Cashew Association has put the figure at conferences to push the production and consumption at 2,July.

Exports increased by 14% in volume and over 27% in value over the same period last year, while other agricultural commodities such as rice, coffee dropped by 15% and 38% in value.

In the first four months of 2015 Vietnam has imported over 197 thousand tons of raw cashew, up nearly 196% over the same period last year.

Planning in this sector in 2015 also set a target equivalent exports in 2014.

In fact, Vietnam is facing the product quality is uneven because it still has many processing enterprises disqualification.

There are about 265 manufacture cashew processing with a capacity of 1.2 million tons of processed nuts / year, of which 119 establishments, enterprises classified as C, that is no guarantee of food safety, accounting for nearly 45% of this potential and risks for manufacturing and export of cashew nuts.

Product quality is uneven, lacking traceability, local firms compete primarily on price rather than product quality, food safety. Vietnam have currently 345 exporting traders.

Department of Agro-forestry, aquaculture and salt products although Vietnam's cashew nuts are still accepted by many countries, but in the situation of global economic integration, market cashew nut of consumption mainly are developing countries where sanitary requirements of food safety increasing, and with 45% base rate, now does not ensure food hygiene and safety and above will cause difficulties this sector during future.

Department of Agro-Forestry swine seafood and salt, among 265 establishments, cashew processing enterprises at present, there are 151 large-scale enterprises. However, of these, only 30 enterprises achieved the standards such as HACCP, ISO 9001, ISO 1400, ISO 2200 ...

The small production base scale often falls into the household with 5-7 employees, not investment in machinery and equipment synchronized and this is where often no guarantee of food safety.

Previously, in order to limit the small base, does not guarantee food safety, a number of member enterprises of Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) make recommendations to the industry that the business is conditional .

This idea later encountered opposition from other businesses, saying, this would eliminate the small business. To resolve this dispute, MARD new Circular 14/2011 / TT-BNN provides for the inspection and assessment base business and production of agricultural materials and agricultural products, forestry, aquaculture to control establishments, enterprises producing not guarantee food safety.

According to the Department of Agro-forestry, aquaculture and salt, resulting in the only stop in the assessment and classification of establishments under Circular 14, and in fact, the facility reaches C after being checked, distribution sort the results still operating normally.
