As the country’s cashew export heads for one of the worst falls in recent times, the industry is planning a branding exercise to promote Indian cashew.
Vietnam exported around 33,000 tons of cashew nuts worth US$300 million in June, bringing the total volume of shipments during the first half of this year to 176,000 tons, valued at US$1.41 billion, up 17% in both volume and value, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
On 23th May, in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) organized a workshop on the development of it in 2016 with the theme "Speak to something purity, think about Vietnam." At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, chairman of Vinacas said: in the previous, China is an important market, there is a high turnover in the first 5 months this year. But at present, the US passed China, become the top markets in cashew nut in Vietnam. Vietnam also took the Ivory Coast and India in cashew export volume to the US market. The US market is the largest cashew exporter in Vietnam with a market share of over 30% of the total output of Vietnam's export.
In the first 4 months of 2016, production and cashew exports volume to this market increased over the same period in 2015, namely the export business to the US market more than 28,500 tonnes of cashew, turnover more than 220 million, up 8.8% in volume and 18.6% in value compared to the same period in 2015. The average export price in the US market also rise continuously, approximately 8.83% over the same period 2015.
According to Mr Thanh, the last time, US consumers found that Vietnam is the country which provide a variety of products and technology that leads the world processing, ensuring food safety than other countries. Therefore, they were redirected to use the product with origin in Vietnam more than other countries such as India, Ivory Coast ...
